How can a healthy diet and nutritional supplements help me?

Quality nutrition and supplementation has the ability to reduce the risk of chronic disease as well as support the body during chronic health challenges. Vitamins and minerals promote the body’s normal biochemical activities and when there are nutrient deficiencies present the body often suffers in the form of various symptoms. Biochemical imbalances can be effectively addressed with a healthy diet and nutritional supplements. Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and phytonutrients all help to promote health and assist healing. This approach is very safe and is rarely associated with side effects.

What can I expect from our work together?

To begin you will fill out a health history form which gives me information about your diet, lifestyle, medications and supplements being taken as well as your main concerns and goals. You will also fill out three days worth of dietary intake giving me a sampling of what you typically eat. The initial consult will cover this paperwork as well as listening to your concerns and symptoms you may be having. You will receive an action plan to start which will not overwhelm you but start the process of building better health. In subsequent follow ups you will be learning how to implement nutrient rich foods into your diet, which specific supplements you need; possible testing if deemed necessary and lifestyle changes to support your body. Careful consideration is taken to progress at your comfort level without overloading you of too much information. This is why package programs work best with at least 3 to 6 months of follow up making sure you understand what you are doing as well as helping you to stay on track. Often times you are able to see and feel improvements during this time period, whereas one and done visits lack follow up guidance and support.

How is your approach different than that of a dietician?

  • Dieticians follow the USDA food guide pyramid where as I advocate an eating for health model which emphasizes locally grown and organic foods whenever possible.
  • My recommendations are individually tailored for each client. I don’t assume one diet fits everyone.
  • I take into account your digestive capacity and ability to absorb nutrients. You will not benefit from even the healthiest diet if you cannot digest and assimilate the nutrients it provides.
  • I teach what constitutes healthy eating emphasizing whole foods and variety instead of drawing up a specific diet plan for you to follow. This allows you to make healthier, informed choices with your own preferences in mind.
  • I am well versed in the use of dietary supplements and nutritional testing where as most dieticians are not.

Some insurance companies may cover nutrition services with a referral from your doctor. Every effort is made to work work within your financial means. In addition you may be able to deduct nutrition services from your health spending account.
